Living mindfully
Mindfulness is the moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, sensations and surroundings.
With awareness, we can consciously choose to respond to life, instead of automatically reacting from our habits.
When we are in auto-pilot mode, we are sleep-walking through life rather than living it. To live life to the fullest, we need to pause and make time to reflect, understand and appreciate every aspect of it. With practice, this will come naturally as we learn to "be in the moment".
Practising mindfulness simply means bringing our awareness to the present moment. It can be practised with formal meditation, but also informally anywhere and at any time and it is not linked to any religion and religious practice.
Benefits of mindfulness
There is extensive scientific evidence to support the positive impact of mindfulness on our mental health and wellbeing. Mindfulness is recognised by the NHS and NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) to treat depression, stress and anxiety.
